Join us for a relaxed, inspiring afternoon of mantra, music, stories, and connection, and an opportunity to go more deeply into the practice of Kirtan.
Kirtan is the practice of singing mantras—an ancient form of Bhakti Yoga, the Yoga of the Heart. Unlike other yoga styles that focus on movement and breathwork, Bhakti Yoga is all about devotion, love and sound. Through singing mantras, we tap into something deep within ourselves—something joyful, meditative, and transformative. In this workshop, Tim will blend mantra, storytelling, and Q&A to bring kirtan to life. He’ll share his personal journey with Bhakti Yoga, the rich mythology behind the mantras, and how this practice of Kirtan is so well suited to the time we are living in. He’ll also talk about the inspiration behind his own original kirtan music.
Kirtan is an experience that goes beyond words, but essentially it is a simple, accessible, and profoundly powerful practice. The repetition helps quiet the mind and open the heart, and the experience becomes meditative, immersive, and deeply moving. Chanting affects us on every level—physically, mentally, and emotionally. It slows the breath, calms the nervous system, and shifts brainwave patterns to a more relaxed state. Over time, regular practice can help reduce stress, improve focus, and support overall well-being.
As kirtan artist Jai Uttal beautifully says: "Kirtan is for all people. There are no experts, no beginners. The practice itself is the teacher, guiding us to ourselves. Kirtan allows us to enter into a world where all the logic of our minds, and all of the conditioning are left aside. With Kirtan, we create a temple inside the altar of our hearts, a place of refuge, a place of love, and a place of just being."
Tim Chalice has been leading Kirtan for well over 15 years, appearing at many bhakti and yoga festivals, gatherings and retreats, as well as releasing two Kirtan CDs.
